Cook to Kick Off LSA Informational Tour at Twilight Borough Meeting
7/1/2019
HARRISBURG – In order for community leaders and the general public to receive accurate information regarding the casino gaming Local Share Account (LSA) grant approval process in Washington County, Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) will begin his “LSA Informational Tour” on Tuesday evening, July 9 at the regularly scheduled Twilight Borough meeting.

“I’m very pleased that we have begun having a productive and meaningful discussion about my concerns with the LSA process here in Washington County,” said Cook. “For whatever reason, the conversation put forward by some has been all about the good LSA funds have accomplished, and I absolutely agree that many honorable projects have been funded through this program. Again, this is not about taking away LSA grants, but rather ensuring that the current LSA grant process is fair, transparent and accountable!”

Cook also indicated that he will continue the LSA Informational Tour by visiting specific Washington County communities that have requested additional information or have sent a “Resolution of Concern” to his Belle Vernon district office.

Topics for discussion include:

• What is LSA and where does the money come from?

• What is the current process and guidelines?

• Who is responsible for the current process?

• Do current Washington County LSA Grant Review Committee members complete an ethics statement regarding potential conflicts of interest?

• Does the LSA Grant Review Committee rotate or appoint new members on a regular basis?

“I will also be sharing information we have collected to date and information that is missing,” said Cook. “We especially want to encourage any other stakeholders that have had experience with the current LSA process in Washington County to reach out to our office to share or request more information. Most importantly, we all should be able to agree that fair, transparent and accountable government at all levels benefits us, the tax paying public. If not, we will never be able to put progress ahead of politics!”
