Cook Supports Budget That Puts Taxpayers First

In a major step forward to close out the 2017-18 budget process, I joined with 102 of my House colleagues on Wednesday to advance a revenue package which contains no new or increased taxes or borrowing.

The revenues to fund the $1.5 billion deficit from 2016-17, as well as the anticipated revenue needed for the current budget of approximately $600 million, would come from legislative reserves; transfers from special accounts with excess or dormant funding; other fund transfers; multi-year agency lapsed funds; gaming reform proceeds; liquor transfers; and the sale of a portion of the Tobacco Settlement money.

The various transfers are not expected to negatively impact any current or future program or service to state residents.

Best of all, this taxpayers-first revenue plan does not include any of the $571 million in broad-based tax increases on natural gas extraction, electricity, telephone bills and cable television that were narrowly advanced by the Senate in July and supported by the governor.

The measure now goes to the Senate for concurrence. For more information, click here.

My upcoming Concealed Carry/Hunting Safety Seminar will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the Monongahela Volunteer Fire Department.

Our featured speakers will include Tom Fazi and Richard Joyce from the Pennsylvania Game Commission; and Kim Stolfer, Firearms Owners Against Crime.

This free seminar will offer updates on state hunting and trespassing laws, and other potential legislation that could impact hunters and other firearm owners. We will also be covering the latest information on concealed carry requirements.

There are a lot of misconceptions about Pennsylvania’s concealed carry laws, and the purpose of this event is to let you know the facts and have your questions answered.
Whether you are considering applying for a permit or already have your permit, this will be a great opportunity to learn your rights, as well as understand your responsibility when interacting with local law enforcement or the Game Commission.

Due to seating limitations, interested individuals should register for this event as soon as possible by calling my Bentleyville district office at (724) 669-2242.

Be sure to tell your friends and neighbors!
