Cook Thanks Columbia Gas for Keeping Donora Borough Safe Throughout Service Interruption

To The Editor:

When citizens pay their utility bills, they do so in anticipation of not only enjoying the convenience of having those resources at their fingertips, but also with the expectation of maintaining accessibility to them when interruptions take place.

While most interruptions are inevitable, customers should never be left in the dark or completely uncertain regarding what steps are being taken to restore service whenever a shutdown takes place.

For all of these reasons, I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone at Columbia Gas who played a role in restoring natural gas service to the 1,700 residents of Donora Borough during the past week. In fact, the procedures that were immediately put into place by Columbia Gas after a contractor working on Mellon Avenue detected a possible influx of air in the system should become textbook for any utility company facing a similar scenario.

Local officials, first responders, Columbia Gas employees and their teams quickly established a command center and warming stations for affected customers, secured resources from neighboring states to assist in the restoration effort and, most importantly, kept the lines of communication open.

The timely information provided to me by Columbia Gas during my visit to the command center allowed me to provide accurate updates to my constituents. As expected, the extremely professional and knowledgeable employees effectively managed the situation to keep our community safe.

Again, thank you to everyone at Columbia Gas for your dedication to meeting and exceeding the expectations of your customers in Donora Borough and Washington County.
