HARRISBURG – Recognizing the importance of ensuring young people are engaged in the issues affecting them and their families, Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) today relaunched his Student Advisory Initiative during a visit to California Area High School.
“These students represent the future of our nation, our Commonwealth and our communities,” Cook said. “If we want to keep them here, and help them succeed here, we need to get them involved, hear their concerns and work with them to help make our region the best it can be.”
During his visit to the high school, Cook talked with dozens of students about history, government and public service, and the goals of his Student Advisory Initiative. He also had the opportunity to do an interview with the school news station.
“The enthusiasm of our young people is infectious, and I want to make sure we capitalize on that,” Cook said.
The lawmaker previously had an active Student Advisory Initiative, but it was paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cook said he is looking forward to resurrecting the effort. Two students from each school district will serve on the advisory council. They will be charged with recruiting additional classmates to identify assets, attractions and activities within the boundaries of each school district and community.
The 50th Legislative District is composed of 10 school districts: Bentworth, Bethlehem-Center, Brownsville Area, California Area, Carmichaels Area, Central Greene, Charleroi, Jefferson-Morgan, Southeastern Greene and West Greene.
Students interested in being involved in the Student Advisory Initiative may contact Cook’s office at 724-929-2660.
