Remembering the Owner of Al’s Cafe - By State Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette)
As a state representative, I have the opportunity to meet unique and inspiring individuals every day. Sometimes, those individuals turn into good friends over shared beliefs. That’s how I met Rodney Ambrogi.
During the pandemic, businesses were shut down across the Commonwealth by Gov. Tom Wolf. Our small businesses were struggling and frustrated, and I empathized with all of them. Through meeting with constituents to help them navigate this tough time, I connected with Rod, owner of Al’s Café Inc., in Bethel Park.
Rod’s outlook on the sudden closure of his business was inspiring. He refused to back down from a fight to save his restaurant that was supporting his family. I later learned where he got that fight. He served as a decorated sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
When he returned back home, he became a community leader and worked to provide meals and other services to those in need. He supported first responders, veterans, senior citizens and children, as well as the everyday citizen.
Unfortunately, Rod passed away recently on Sept. 29 at the young age of 75, but I will forever remember his fight and determination, and will use it to inspire me daily.
