HARRISBURG – Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) issued the below statement following Wednesday’s budget address:

“Our governor does not understand what it means to work for We the People. He does not understand that his administration has spent the last year destroying small businesses and restaurants. After hearing his proposed budget, it is obvious he does not understand what needs to be done to recover our state from the pandemic.

“The No. 1 priority of this administration should be getting vaccines in people’s arms who want it. We are ranked 44th in the nation in the vaccine rollout. That disaster of a ranking is a direct reflection on the administration’s decisions. The sooner we can get Pennsylvania people protected from COVID-19, the sooner we can get people back to work. That’s why I’m in support of House Bill 326, which would require the Pennsylvania National Guard to help distribute and administer the vaccine.

“I also signed on to House Bill 55, which would limit the governor’s ability to declare emergencies for longer than 21 days without the approval of the Legislature. We have been under an emergency declaration for over three years for the opioid epidemic, and almost a year for COVID-19. Under these declarations, we lose rights and we lose jobs. We must put an end to this dictator-like leadership.

“Gov. Wolf’s plan is to raise taxes in the middle of a pandemic when so many people are already struggling to live because of his statewide shutdowns and failed unemployment system. He then wants to send that money into public schools that have not been fully in-person since last March.

“We must hold the governor and his administration responsible for all that he has taken from Pennsylvania citizens throughout the last year. I will not support his proposed budget and instead will fight for a budget that will actually help the people of Pennsylvania recover from the mess he caused.”
