Cook Presents ‘Come Home…GO BIG!’ Initiative to Washington County Commissioners

September 17, 2021

WASHINGTON COUNTY – Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) recently spoke at the Washington County commissioners monthly meeting about his newest initiative – “Come Home…GO BIG!” The initiative highlights Southwestern Pennsylvania, which consists of Washington, Fayette, Greene, Westmoreland and Allegheny counties, as the best place in the Commonwealth to live and work.

“I stood before the commissioners and asked for a committed partnership from them in pursuing this idea,” said Cook. “I want to publicly thank them for the opportunity to present Come Home…GO BIG! I look forward to potentially working with them in the months to come.”

In May 2021, Cook started to ask the public “Why Not Here?” As many people had the opportunity to work from anywhere during the pandemic, he questioned why people wouldn’t want to live and work in one of the tightest-knit communities in the Commonwealth. Thus, began his focus to make Southwestern Pennsylvania a home for many and a tourist destination for others.

“Our area has so many assets, attractions and activities that would draw people here,” Cook continued. “We just need to get the word out and make it known. Some of our best assets include California University of Pennsylvania, the Mon Valley Hospital, the Monongahela River and most importantly, our tight-knit, family-focused community. For attractions, we have the Rotary Park in California, the Monongahela Aquatorium, the Cokeburg Dam, the Franklin Township Community Park and Cerrini’s, one of the longest-standing Harley Davidson dealerships in the country. There are so many choices of activities to choose from including trout fishing, rodeos, car cruises, parades, picnics and more. This is really a great place to be.”

Constituents are invited to join in on the initiative. Several Community Development Committees (CDC) have been created and consist of volunteers from the 49th District. Cook is committed to putting progress ahead of politics and encourages other members of the community to do the same.

Cook ended his presentation by asking the Washington County commissioners for a meeting in the coming months to discuss the idea further. To see his presentation, visit his website at RepBudCook.com.
