WASHINGTON – As the Washington County Commissioners prepared Thursday to approve $8.7 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grant funds, Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) again stressed the need for greater fairness, transparency and accountability in the program.
“This is a non-negotiable for me and should be that way for any and all elected officials and public servants,” Cook said. “For more than seven years, I have been seeking answers about the LSA program on behalf of the people of Washington County, and I will continue to do so until we get them.”
Cook reiterated the program currently has $10 million in funds unaccounted for, that the prior board of commissioners spent $30,000 fighting Right-to-Know requests about the program, and the refusal thus far to rotate elected state representatives on the LSA committee.
He continues to seek an audit of the program to ensure accountability for how projects are funded and how the funding is spent.
