Greene Co. Bridge Named to Honor Local Vietnam Veteran, Cook Says
July 17, 2024
HARRISBURG – In recognition of his service and sacrifice, U.S. Army veteran Harry Ronald Hoskinson will forever be memorialized with the naming of a Greene County bridge in his honor, said Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington).
The bridge carrying State Route 2003 over Dunkard Creek in Perry Township, Greene County, has been designated the H. Ronald Hoskinson Memorial Bridge under Act 63 of 2024.
Hoskinson was born on Sept. 2, 1941, in Mt. Morris. He graduated from Mt. Morris High School, where he was a lineman on the football team. After high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he was a specialist in Company B, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was killed in action at just 24 years of age on Dec. 14, 1965. He left behind his wife, Madelynn Hoskinson, and their daughter, Rhonda.
For his valiant service, Hoskinson was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense, Vietnam Service and Vietnam Campaign medals.
“We owe a great debt of gratitude to the men and women who have served our country, and we must never forget their sacrifice,” Cook said. “I hope when people cross this bridge, they think about this young man whose life was cut short to help protect our freedoms.”
Cook introduced legislation (House Bill 1927) late last year to name the bridge in Hoskinson’s honor. That measure was added to another bill, Senate Bill 1144, which ultimately became law.
