Cook to Give Remarks at Vigil for Charlie Kirk
September 17, 2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) plans to speak at a student-organized vigil for Charlie Kirk at PennWest University. The vigil will take place on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 6-8 p.m. and is open to the public.
The vigil is being organized by Alexis Wieland, a junior at the university, who wanted to call for unity and an end to political violence following the assassination of Kirk
“I’ve always believed in the power of students to make a difference,” Cook said. “I’m joining this vigil to reflect and offer remarks as we search for a way to engage in meaningful, peaceful political discussions just as Charlie Kirk would have hoped.”
Kirk’s murder has sparked vigils across the country.
The vigil at PennWest University will feature remarks from students; Brian Higbee, a pastor at City Church of Connellsville; Rev. Dr. Todd Rutherford, California Baptist Church; and others. It is also scheduled to include a prayer and candlelight remembrance.
Organizers hope the event will bring healing after the killing of Kirk.
“I hope this vigil encourages more students to get involved and have civil, constructive conversations in their communities,” Cook said. “I applaud Alexis for stepping up and organizing this vigil during this dark moment.”
The vigil will take place at the flag poles near Dixon Hall.
