State Lawmakers and Community Leaders Examine Solutions to Mon Valley Drug Epidemic
On Monday, I co-hosted a House Majority Policy Committee public hearing to gather testimony from those on the frontlines of the Mon Valley’s drug epidemic and recommendations for specific legislative actions that could be taken moving forward.
Held at the Donora Municipal Building, the hearing brought together 15 state representatives from across the Commonwealth and more than 75 local residents and community leaders.
Testifiers included Captain David J. Heckman, PA State Police; Diana Irey Vaughan, Washington County commissioner; Linda M. Marcolini, superintendent, Beth Center School District; the Hon. John F. DiSalle, Washington County Drug Court; Theodore Davi, Gambit Interactive; Michael Cipoletti, Waynesburg University; and William Josko, IBM.

Committee Accepts Hunting, Fishing Reports from State Agencies
As a member of the House Game and Fisheries Committee, I attended two meetings at the State Capitol this week to receive the annual reports of the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC).
Among the PGC’s top issues presented to the committee were the recruitment of a new class of wildlife conservation officer cadets, the closing of two of Pennsylvania’s four pheasant farms due to insufficient funding and a decline of the ruffed grouse population.

The PFBC addressed the agency’s fiscal challenges, noting that license fees have not increased since 2005 and expenses are expected to exceed revenue during the current fiscal year.

PennDOT Offers Internship Opportunities
PennDOT is offering internships for those seeking engineering, science and technical degrees, along with general government service, this summer.
A variety of internship positions will be filled, including those that may lead to full-time employment after graduation. Click here to learn more about the types of internships offered.
Applications for the summer program will be accepted through March 30.

District Office Open House and Ribbon Cutting
Residents of the 49th Legislative District are invited to join me on Tuesday, Feb. 28, for my first-ever open house and ribbon cutting from 4-6 p.m. at my new Bentleyville district office, located at Big Jim Plaza, LLC, 55 Gosai Drive, Suite 112.
This grand opening is an excellent opportunity to meet me, and my highly knowledgeable staff, and learn about the wide range of services that are available through my district office, including assistance with PennDOT paperwork, PACE and PACENET applications for senior citizens, 2016 Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications and many others.
