Fish for Free on Sunday
As part of this program from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), anyone (resident or non-resident) can legally fish on all Pennsylvania waterways without a license. All other fishing regulations will still apply. To make the fishing experience more convenient on the Fish-for-Free days, people can borrow equipment from dozens of fishing tackle loaner sites across the state. Many of the sites are right at state parks, which are always a popular place for visitors during the Memorial Day weekend. Loaner sites are also available at county parks and some public libraries. Click here for the list of loaner sites. This is the first of two dates set by the PFBC to enhance fishing opportunities. The next day is Independence Day, Wednesday, July 4. |

National Boating Safety Week
Each year, on average, 700 people die in boating-related accidents nationwide, and eight out of every 10 victims were not wearing a life jacket. Life jackets are available in a wide variety of sizes and styles to fit every person and recreational opportunity. They are also more comfortable and lightweight than ever, especially inflatable life jackets. Law requires children 12 years of age and younger to wear their life jackets while underway on any boat 20 feet or less in length and on all canoes and kayaks. Boats must have a U.S. Coast Guard approved wearable (Type I, II, III, or V) Personal Floatation Device (PFD) on board for each person. Also, personal watercraft users must wear a lifejacket at all times. Be safe when you hit the water this summer and “Wear It!” For more information about life jackets, visit www.fishandboat.com. |
