Cook Recognized for Perfect Conservative Voting Record

I am deeply humbled to announce that I was recently recognized with the American Conservative Union Foundation’s (ACUF) Conservative Excellence Award.

Out of 253 Pennsylvania lawmakers, I am proud to be among a select group of only 17 who received a 100 percent rating for voting most consistently with the ideals articulated in our state and federal Constitutions, limited government, personal responsibility and lasting cultural values.

If there is one thing that I hope my bosses in the 49th Legislative District remember about my first term in office, it’s that Bud Cook is a frontline protector of individual rights, economic freedom and preventing government from intruding on our most personal decisions.

Whether it’s reining in excessive spending to allow the people of Pennsylvania to keep more of their hard-earned money, protecting our right to bear arms, holding the line against job-killing tax increases and regulations, or any other decision impacting our everyday lives, the obvious and only choice should always be liberty.

In compiling this annual ranking of Pennsylvania lawmakers, the ACUF researched and selected a range of bills before the Pennsylvania General Assembly to determine a member’s adherence to conservative principles.

Bills chosen for selection focused on President Ronald Reagan’s philosophy of the “three-legged stool”: 1) fiscal and economic: taxes, budgets, regulation, spending, health care and property; 2) social and cultural: Second Amendment, religion, life, welfare and education; and 3) government integrity: voting, individual liberty, privacy and transparency.

This wide range of issues is designed to give citizens an accurate assessment that conveys which of Pennsylvania’s elected leaders best defend the principles of a free society: Life, Liberty and Property. The ACU Foundation is the only organization to score more than 8,000 elected officials each year, including lawmakers from all 50 states and Congress.

Ringgold Rams’ First-Ever State Championship Baseball Team Honored on PA House Floor

On Tuesday, I had the privilege of presenting House of Representatives citations to the Ringgold High School baseball team and coaches for capturing the 2018 PIAA State Class 4A Baseball Championship with a 6-4 victory over Valley View High School on June 14.

Congratulations to the players, coaching staff, families and everyone associated with this year’s championship team. In only his second year, Head Coach Don Roberts and his coaching staff expertly guided the Ringgold Rams’ baseball program to its first-ever championship season.

These young men demonstrated tremendous discipline and outstanding teamwork on the baseball diamond all year long, which are major keys to success in sports, in academics and all throughout life. Their dedication and commitment to excellence shined through as they played their best baseball when it mattered most by rallying to overcome early deficits of 3-0 and 4-2.

Best wishes for continued success! Let’s go, Ringgold Rams!

Kim Stolfer, president, Firearms Owners Against Crime; Dr. Michael Hummel, police officer and professor of criminal justice; and Washington County Chief Deputy Sheriff James Dalessandro or representative will present the facts and answer questions about Pennsylvania’s concealed carry process, the Castle Doctrine and other valuable information regarding firearms safety and state gun laws including:
  • How to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
  • Legal enforcement of the laws.
  • Self-defense and your rights.
  • Reciprocity laws.
  • Hunting laws and regulations.
There are a lot of misconceptions about Pennsylvania’s concealed carry laws, and the purpose of this FREE event is to let you know the facts and have your questions answered.

Whether you are considering applying for a permit or already have one, this seminar offers a unique opportunity for both prospective and experienced firearm owners to expand their knowledge of existing gun laws and get a better understanding about freely and responsibly exercising your right to keep and bear arms.

Due to seating limitations, interested individuals should register for this event as soon as possible by calling my Bentleyville district office at (724) 669-2242.

Fish-for-Free on July 4

The second Fish-for-Free Day in Pennsylvania will be held Wednesday, July 4.

Fish-for-Free Days allow anyone – residents and non-residents – to legally fish in Pennsylvania without a fishing license. All other fishing regulations apply.

To make the fishing experience more convenient, people can borrow equipment from dozens of fishing tackle loaner sites across the state. Many of the sites are located at state parks, along with some county parks and public libraries.

Click here for the list of loaner sites.

More information is available on the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission website, which includes interactive maps, regional fishing reports, and tips on fishing fundamentals. Fishing licenses can be purchased online at www.GoneFishingPa.com.
